Do you get an urge to deep clean and tidy your house at this time of year? To get rid of the useless clutter, stuff you don’t like or need any more. It can be a bit of a wrench cant it! But after a trip to the charity shop, to do a drop off ,and looking out of clean windows from your clean tidy home, everything In regards to your Wellness and Peri to Post-Menopause. feels great.
What if we used the same principles to give our own lives a ‘clear out’. Ditch the toxic stuff that gets us down, and put into place those things we know we would feel better for.
As I’m going to be 49 years old this year, I’m finding myself firmly in the grasp of perimenopause, and as I learn more about the roles of the hormones involved, or lack of those hormones at certain times in my cycle, I am also learning how my lifestyle choices affect how I feel. So for me it's a time for deep self care and simple stress relief.
I replaced all the toxic cleaning products and skin care etc, with non toxic a few years ago now, I’ve upped my exercise to 5 days a week, ( it's almost impossible to feel low when you exercise!) And I have been doing a short meditation each day - although I didn’t manage that last weekend with the small around, something to work on! I’m not drinking alcohol, apart from the odd glass of wine at the weekend sometimes, as it's a sure fire way to sleeping badly and feeling anxious. And I’ve upped the veg and greens intake, with broccoli and other cruciferous veg at least once a day (more on all this to come in later blogs) I’m also going to bed much earlier, and get up earlier, to avoid the morning stress inducing rush. I feel better! It’s made my Daughters life better too, as I’m less grumpy!
These are simple steps, or Life Hacks. I know it can feel almost impossible to achieve the small stuff, but it really isn’t. Remember you are a grown up and in charge of your life, and to a huge extent your wellness. You deserve to feel great!
